After the blush of first time hand peeling wore off...my kids were nowhere to be found when it came time to peeling vegetables or anything else. But when I bought this they were all in and competed for who was going to run the peeler. These models are available in several colors which allows and motivates the chosen child to use their personality color while using this peeling machine. Usually the peel comes off in one or two long peels and is easily picked up in one swoop and disposed of. The little but very sharp red blade snaps out for rinsing and snaps back in but be careful that blade is sharp and should only be handled by older children.
