I grew up in the 60's and watched the classic "Route 66". I've always wanted that care free life style of getting in my sportscar with the top down and driving Route 66. I did get a little, very used, Austin Healy Sprite Mk III in my senior year of high school. I think I had the oldest car amongst the fastback Mustangs all my other senior classmates drove. The first time I drove all day with the top down I was severely wind and sun burned and couldn't smile for a week. Now that I have retired I'm trying to convince my brothers to accompany me on my Route 66 adventure. I have purchased the DVD set of the original show which I intend to watch each night as I (hopefully) drive from Chicago to the Santa Monica Pier with my brothers.
My best friend in elementary and middle school was Cory. Unfortunately when high school came along I was slated to attend a brand new high school and my best friend was slated to go to the main city high school. I have regretted that ever since. My buddy who I shared all my dreams of the future, vacations, sleep overs, movies and comic books, talks about who was the prettiest girl in middle school...was gone. We did connect from time to time...but as high school time progressed we drifted. By the time I entered college I never saw him again.
Anyway Cory's brother bought the same style Corvette that was on Route 66 we took a few rides in it. I remember one time Cory's brother got a ticket and the police officer who stopped him said "I was doing 105 mph and you were still pulling away from me!".
So you dads who dream of jumping in your little sports car with the top down and tooling down the road a piece....tool around the kitchen in these classic car theme aprons while you create a life long bond with your kids.
